Acorn woodpecker

The Acorn Woodpecker is a very common bird found in the central coast of California. These little birds love using oak trees to store their acorns! That being said, if you can help any bird using a woodpecker bird feeder on your house then you should.

The bird has a glossy back above with a black, yellow and white face. The male has a white forehead and a red crown; the female has a black bar in the front of the red crown. The juvenile is similar to the female but has darker eyes and are more brown in color.
