Turnstones and Surfbirds

These birds belong to the Scolopacidae family along with the sandpipers.  They are chunky waders with thick necks.  They have shorter legs than most sandpipers and have a stubby bill. Their eyes are large; the sexes are alike. They run in short bursts and stops and feed on along the coast.  They eat insects, marine life and some plants.
