Larks

Larks

Larks are found in the Alaudidae family of birds.  There are 91 species of larks, found in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America.  Their habitat is the open country, usually in arid areas with sparse, low vegetation. Most of them are rather drab in appearance, sporting pale brown, buff, white, and some black in their plumages. They are able to adapt their coloration to blend into their environment. These birds walk on the ground, and when flushed, return to the ground.  They seldom perch in trees or bushes.  They eat insects, invertebrates, and seeds.  Their nests are well hidden on the ground.
