Herons, Bitterns, Egrets
Herons are large wading birds and are grouped in the Ardeiae family. Most have long legs and necks and spear-like bills. They spend their time stalking food in shallow water. They hold their necks in an “S” position or pulled back between their shoulders. Sexes are similar. Some of them have head crests and long plumbs during breeding season. In flight, the head is pulled in and the feet trail behind.
