Avocets and Stilts

These long-legged and slender billed birds belong to the Recurvirostridae family.  Their long legs enable them to wade deeper in the water than other waders.  They are often found feeding side by side.  The sexes look alike.   They trail their legs behind them in flight.  Below: left-Black-necked Stilt, right-American Avocet.
