Auks, Murres, Puffins

These members of the Alcidae family are chunky pelagic birds with short wings, tails and large webbed feet.  They are usually dark above and white below and only come to shore when they breed or roost.  They are expert swimmers and divers, using their wings to “fly” underwater to catch fish and squid.  They can be found nesting in large colonies on sea cliffs.
